Stay Wistful and Young

To be so young yet so haunted.

blessing the boats (at st. mary’s)

may the tide
that is entering even now
the lip of our understanding
carry you out
beyond the face of fear
may you kiss
the wind then turn from it
certain that it will
love your back may you
open your eyes to water
water waving forever
and may you in your innocence
sail through this to that

"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself."

Can’t Smile Without You

You know I can’t smile without you
I can’t smile without you
I can’t laugh and I can’t sing
I’m finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you’re sad
I feel glad when you’re glad
If you only knew what I’m going through
I just can’t smile without you

You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who would have believed that you were part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away

And now you know I can’t smile without you
I can’t smile without you
I can’t laugh and I can’t sing
I’m finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you’re sad
I feel glad when you’re glad
If you only knew what I’m going through
I just can’t smile

Now some people say happiness takes so very long to find
Well, I’m finding it hard leaving your love behind me

And you see I can’t smile without you
I can’t smile without you
I can’t laugh and I can’t sing
I’m finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you’re glad
I feel sad when you’re sad
If you only knew what I’m going through
I just can’t smile without you

My boyfriend sings me Barry Manilow and I love him for it.

I went to the Counseling Center at the college today to ask a few questions because I’ve decided to drop Nursing as my major and within 15 minutes I had a woman telling me that I can drop this course after Priority Registration on March 19, sign up for American Lit II as an online summer course to satisfy my electives necessary to graduate with my A.A in Liberal Arts in May and then transfer in the fall to a college to pursue my degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in English.  She signed me up for Instant Decision Day for Montclair State University and sent me on my way, stunned.  Apparently I am graduating and transferring this year to a four-year school and will complete my degree by Spring 2012.  I’m still deciding on what college to transfer to, but since I don’t want to live on campus, Montclair is seeming like the easiest commute, and also the cheapest option.  It’s all so much, and I don’t have much time to decide.  I hadn’t even thought about it, I was under the impression that I wouldn’t be transferring until January of 2011.  So as of today, I don’t have any classes until June and that will be my final class at Sussex County Community College.

"If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light
If I lose paper and ink, I will write in blood on forgotten walls
I will write always
I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you."

Henry Rollins

"Here in the bathroom with me are razor blades. Here is iodine to drink. Here are sleeping pills to swallow. You have a choice. Live or die. Every breath is a choice. Every minute is a choice. To be or not to be. Every time you don’t throw yourself down the stairs, that’s a choice. Every time you don’t crash your car, you reenlist."

"Among other things, you’ll find that you’re not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You’re by no means alone on that score, you’ll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You’ll learn from them—if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It’s a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn’t education. It’s history. It’s poetry."
